Rekha – The Kalbelia Dancer who was brutally murdered on Thursday 30th Jan was one of the best dancers in her group. She had been regularly exhibiting her dancing talent at the 5 Star Hotel Lake Palace and had also performed internationally in U.S, France, Russia, Canada, Oman and Italy.
The 22-year-old girl had a brutal end to her life when she was murdered by a man who claimed to love her and could not stand the rejection of his proposal. Fumed over the rejection, the accused Dilip Nath stabbed Rekha multiple times as she was approaching the boat stand at Pichola.
In a statement given to police, Dilip claimed that, before killing Rekha, even he had consumed poisonous substance mixed with alcohol to end his life, but he survived. Police is yet to find any strong evidence to corroborate his claim since the accused appeared to be perfectly fit.
Whatever the case be, it is heartbreaking to witness such a painful and abrupt end to a lively and promising life.
Sheranath Kalbeliya, elder brother of Rekha said that their family belongs to Village Nusar near Jodhpur. Born and raised in Kalbelia tribe, every member of their family is a dancer. Almost 10 years back, the family moved to Udaipur for better life and has since then stayed on.
Informing about Rekha, Sheranath said that, she was the youngest amongst 4 siblings and was very lively and talented. In her short life span, Rekha had performed in various countries. “Her last overseas performance was in Muscat, Oman on 8th Jan 2014 and she was scheduled to perform in Milan on 8th March 2014” he said.
“She danced last in an event at Jagmandir Palace on 28th January and had one more event today” continued Sheranath.
The body of Rekha has been taken to her native village for last rites and will be cremated there.
And with yet another incidence of psychopath behavior, comes to an end a life that deserved to be lived.
