Priya Sachdev took the odd road to entrepreneurship and started her Thadi style eating joint “Three Addiction” in Dec 2015. “We serve nearly a dozen varieties of tea, more than a dozen styles of maggi, buns and sandwiches etc. Not just food, we also provide free wifi, books to read and even some time pass games like carom board etc” says Priya, a commerce graduate.

Three Addictions, a “Chai Thadi” for Girls by a GirlThadis or Tapris are very common snack and tea joints easily available in every nook and corner of the city. A short chit-chat or long discussions these thadis are always preferable for both its accessibility and affordability.

Three Addictions is one such thadi style eatery that solves this gender biased situation and attempted to provide safe and comfortable experience for its female customers.

Most of Priya’s customers appreciated three addictions but not all are happy with her idea. Soon after installing the kiosk, objection started rising by some of the locals and few people even threatened Priya and her staff.

“I’ve been facing continuous problems but I’ll not stop”, assert Priya. “Some people even lodged a fake police complaint against me but cops supported me when I proved my innocence.”

Belong to a middle class family, Priya used to own an event company before starting Three Addictions at Subhash Nagar, near River View Complex.

“Three Addictions give me more satisfaction than the event management work I used to do” says Priya. “I tried to provide best and safe hangout place for girls and serve them tea in kullhad (earthen pot) which makes me happier than anything else.”

I encountered the first objection when somebody told me “Ladki Hokar Thela Chalana Shobha Nahi Deta” (it is disgraceful to run tea stall being a girl). Even after facing many such comments Priya didn’t got discouraged and continued to provide quality snacks and tea with best service.

Several workshops and programs are often conducted to empower women but when a girl like Priya tried to empower herself she faced objection, abuse and threat from the society. Hypocrisy cannot be hidden under the blanket of modernism. It’s time to revolutionize; it’s time to raise the bar of our acceptations.
