Aug 23, 2025 - President Donald Trump on Friday, August 22, 2025, announced nomination of 38-year-old Sergio Gor to be the next US ambassador to India and special envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

"For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding, "Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador."

Trump has ignored seasoned diplomats for this position and relied instead on friends as Gor is one of his closest aides. Gor, who was born in Uzbekistan, is currently Director of Presidential Personnel and will stay on until the Republican-led Senate confirms him as Ambassador.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio endorsed Gor’s nomination writing on X that he would be an "excellent representative of America in one of the most important relationships our nation has in the world."

Gor today said he was "beyond grateful" to President Trump for the nomination.
