Udaipur Innovators Make Bricks from Plastic and Construction Waste

Eco-friendly bricks reduce pollution and costs; government labs have tested these bricks and given positive results

Eco-Friendly Bricks

Udaipur, March 3, 2025 - Two young innovators from Udaipur, Rajasthan, Kunjpreet Arora and Lokesh Puri Goswami, have developed eco-friendly interlocking bricks. These bricks are made entirely from recycled materials like single-use plastic, construction waste, and industrial waste. Their innovation can reduce construction costs by up to 20%.  Arora and Goswami started working on this project in 2019. They initially created small cubes, and when the results were promising, they developed a complete brick model.

Inspiration Behind the Startup

The company was named Angirus after Rishi Angirus, considered the inventor of clay bricks in ancient India. Clay bricks have been used in India since the Mohenjo-Daro era.

Successful Project in Chennai

The company has already built a badminton court in Chennai using these bricks. The construction used 12,000 bricks, recycling 10 tons of plastic and 30 tons of construction waste.

Huge Waste in Traditional Brick Industry

India produces 350 million tons of fertile soil and 25 million tons of coal for brick manufacturing every year. This leads to severe pollution and wastage. Additionally, 14.3 million tons of plastic and 200 million tons of construction waste are generated annually, but only 8% is recycled.

These Eco-Friendly Bricks Have Several Advantages

  • 75% lower carbon footprint than traditional bricks.

  • 20% stronger and provide 20% better thermal insulation.

  • Waterproof, damp-proof, and 100% fire-resistant.

  • Do not require soaking, saving water.

  • Lightweight, reducing construction costs.

Government labs have tested these bricks and given positive results.
