A Musk Civet was rescued today from a house at Lakadwas, a rural suburb of Udaipur. The frightened animal was found hidden inside the house of Ganeshlal Soni.
The lithe bodied, mostly nocturnal beast entered late night into the house of Soni. Large number of villagers gathered outside the house of Soni to see the endangered specie.
Upon a call from the house owners, wild animal and rescue team reached the spot and dispersed people from the scene, so that the animal could be relaxed and brought to its normal behavior; team members also warned the people not to scare the animal.
The Musk Civet was then carefully trapped by the rescue team and set free in the nearby Baghdarra Sanctuary.
Civets normally come out at night time and rarely encounter people; these shy beasts are often hunted and killed due the aroma (musk), a kind of scent produced by them, which is highly valued as a fragrance and stabilizing agent for perfumes.
