Most of us start our winter shopping with the Tibetan market at Samor Baag. This market is set up every year and people can be seen rushing in to meet their woollen needs. Interestingly there are women in Udaipur who are skilled in making woollen wear and the likes which have gained a worldwide recognition and these women must be promoted.

These self-employed women make good quality jackets, shawls and quilts and their products have been loved and appreciated by people in USA, UK and so on. The women hailing from Udaipur-Rajsamand districts started their business long back with “Sadhna” and are earning 5 to 7 thousand rupees per month. There are almost 700 women involved in the hand-made woollen products who have also been a helping hand in earning their family’s bread and butter.

As informed by Shubhangi Rathore, production manager of Sadhna, the products are now selling online as well since the pandemic era has promoted online shopping to a great extent. It has also been stated that foreign nationals prefer wearing handmade stuff. Apart from supplying these woollens abroad, the products are also being sold in trade fairs in Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Lucknow etc.

There are ladies who have actually fetched income for their families when their husband’s employment suffered during the pandemic. Females from the rural areas, too, have been employed.  The materials needed for the products are supplied to them and the finished products are supplied as per the demands of the market.
