May 27, 2025 - A heartwarming story going viral at this point of time is a Zomato delivery man’s lesson for life - of gratitude, optimism and humility. After losing a well-paid job in a big firm owing to disability, the delivery man did not allow bitterness to consume him but instead moved to food delivery without being cynical about life.

The Zomato delivery man’s story was shared on social media by a Pune resident Shripal Gandhi who had ordered food from Subway - paneer tikka sandwich, Bingo chips and oat raisin cookies. When the food came to him, the chips and cookies were missing. Gandhi asked the delivery person about it but the latter had no clue and asked the customer to call Subway or Zomato.

When Gandhi called Subway, the restaurant confirmed it was their mistake and asked for the Zomato delivery agent to come back to pick up the missing items for which they offered to pay him an extra Rs 20. Although the delivery man could have refused to go back because he works for Zomato but he agreed saying, “Sir, it’s my responsibility. I want the customer to be happy”.

He came back with the two items but refused to take the Rs 20 saying, ““God has given me so much. Why should I take this money for a mistake someone else made?”

Further conversation with the rider led to the impressed Gandhi finding out that the former once worked as a construction supervisor at Shapoorji Pallonji, earning Rs 1.25 lakh a month. A car accident left the left side of his body paralysed and he was forced to quit. Zomato gave him a job to deliver food and be able to support his family. Since then, the delivery man has been able to look after his family and give moral support to his daughter who is pursuing dentistry, and keep her dream alive.

“Sir, Zomato kept my family alive. I may be handicapped, but I’ve been given an opportunity. I will never let Zomato’s name be affected,” the man told Gandhi.

The man’s story of optimism and resilience impressed Gandhi so much that he went on social media to share this. He also had a word of praise for Zomato owner saying, “You might not realize it, but your decision to hire persons with disabilities is changing lives in the most profound way,” he wrote. “Yesterday I received a sandwich. But what stayed with me… was gratitude, resilience, and hope.”

Social media is abuzz with praise for this man. His humility has won the Internet touching countless hearts online, turning it into a story of true inspiration.
