Ashok Gehlot addressing media in Udaipur on Sonam Wangchuk’s arrest and Manipur unrest

Udaipur, Sept 27, 2025: During his visit to Udaipur, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot commented on the recent arrest of social activist Sonam Wangchuk.

He praised Sonam Wangchuk for his efforts in calming tensions and raising critical issues. Gehlot questioned the sudden arrest, asking why Wangchuk, a supporter of PM Modi, was sent from Ladakh to Jodhpur prison. He described the move as a result of government mismanagement, highlighting concerns about the jail system, including unnecessary CCTV surveillance.

Gehlot also criticized the handling of the situation in Manipur, saying the state has been facing unrest for over two and a half years. He noted that despite the Home Minister being aware, adequate measures were not taken to restore peace. Even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Manipur, violence has erupted again, marking a significant concern.

Gehlot stressed the need for maintaining peace across India, especially in border states like Kashmir and Ladakh, warning that the current situation is unfavorable for the country’s overall stability.
