Dinesh Shrimali, Congress Leader of the opposition at Udaipur Municipal Corporation is selected to fight against Gulabchand Kataria, BJP Leader of the opposition at State Legislative Assembly, for the upcoming State Assembly Elections 2013.
It send a wave of utter surprise to the congress activists and supporters when the name of 40-year-old Dinesh Shrimali was announced for the post of MLA from Udaipur (City). The announcement came along with the release of fourth list of 23 contestants on the evening of 10th Nov.
As per the local media, the selection of Shrimali is said to be done under politically motivated theory of casteism as Congress would looking forward to please Brahmins. The other reason could be the close relation of Shrimali with Dr. C.P Joshi, Chairman of Congress Election Committee.
The decision is though welcomed by other members of congress but might also provoke groupism as some members do not want an inexperienced candidate to fight against a senior leader of BJP.
Congress has already announced name of Sajjan Katara from Udaipur Rural.
Congress has first announced 63 names, then 42 names followed by 71 names of the contestants from 200 assembly seats of Rajasthan. At last 23 names were announced out of 24 on Sunday 10 Nov.
From Kapasan, R.D Jawa got the ticket while Gopal Singh Rawat got the ticket from Bhim. From Nathdwara (Rajsamand) Devkinandan Gurjar got the ticket.
Lal Singh Jhala was not given ticket. Jhala is known as one of the most influential leaders of Udaipur district congress.
On the other side, BJP has announced the name of Ganpatlal Menaria from Vallabhnagar. The close candidate Randheer Singh Bhinder was discarded due to alleged resistance from Gulabchand Kataria.
