The President of India, Draupadi Murmu appointed new Governors across 12 States and 1 Union Territory of the Indian Union on 12 February. The President accepted the resignations of Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and Radha Krishnan Mathur who were Governors of Maharashtra and Lt. Governor of Ladakh respectively.
Among the 12 appointments was that of Gulab Chand Kataria, who is the leader of the opposition (BJP) in the Rajasthan State Legislative Assembly. Kataria has been appointed the Governor of Assam with immediate effect. Rajasthan, along with Meghalaya and Nagaland goes to polls this year.
