The President of India appointed 13 Governors across India on 12 February

Gulab Chand Kataria was the leader of the opposition (BJP) in the Rajasthan Assembly and has been a prominent face in state politics all through his career
The President of India, Draupadi Murmu appointed new Governors across 12 States and 1 Union Territory of the Indian Union on 12 February. The President accepted the resignations of Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and Radha Krishnan Mathur who were Governors of Maharashtra and Lt. Governor of Ladakh respectively.
Among the 12 appointments was that of Gulab Chand Kataria, who is the leader of the opposition (BJP) in the Rajasthan State Legislative Assembly. Kataria has been appointed the Governor of Assam with immediate effect. Rajasthan, along with Meghalaya and Nagaland goes to polls this year.
Governors to the following States and UT of the Indian Union have been appointed per the order from the President's office on 12 February 2023:

As per the communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the appointments will take effect from the day the new Governors assume charge of their respective offices.
