Indo - Pak Conflict: Beware of Social Media Misinformation

In the light of the ongoing Indo-Pak conflict, here we update on fake news posts and information circulating on social media sites and platforms - most of the data is taken from the official government handle, @PIBFactCheck

 
 Indo - Pak Conflict: Beware of Social Media Misinformation being spread to confuse and intimidate and cause communal disharmony

Udaipur, May 9, 2025: The heightened tensions among the general public during the ongoing Indo-Pak conflict on both sides of the border, brings along fake social media posts, that creates further psychological damage. Such posts, when circulated widely by the innocent users, creates confusion. Here we bring updates on latest social media posts that have been verified to be false. We credit this information to the official government X handle, @PIBFactCheck and the Ministry of Defence Fact Check sources.

1. Fake CNN Narrative

There is a fake narrative in the form of a infographic credit to CNN. PIB fact check has confirmed that the narrative comparing the losses incurred by India and Pakistan and US's assessment to curb India's losses.


2. Arson by Indian Muslims in Delhi

A fake video is being circulated online claiming that Indian Muslims have started arson in New Delhi, in the midst of the ongoing Indo-Pak conflict. This video, as per PIBFactCheck is from April 30, 2025, where a massive fire broke out at Delhi Haat market in INA area of Delhi. This, as per PIB is part of a well-planned propaganda campaign aimed at misleading the public and spread communal disharmony.

3. Video of Pakistani Attack in Jammu

A video circulating on social media, that claims an attack by Pakistan in areas of Jammu. The video, as per PIBFactCheck, is from Dhaka in Bangladesh. The Instagram post from 21 February 2025, of a Bangladeshi news handle SomoyNews, describes fire engulfing a building in Khilgaon area of Dhaka, due to multiple gas cylinders bursting one after the other.

4. Indian Jets Crashed

A tweet by China Daily, a Chinese news handle, claimed that Indian daily The Hindu reported that three Indian Jets have fallen in India controlled Kashmir.  It says that The Hindu has quoted government sources. This post, however, is that of Al Jazeera from Feb 27, 2019, where India claimed that it shot down one Pakistani fighter jet and in the process, lost one of its own. Hence the post by China Daily is fake, as per @PIBFactCheck.
