Raghav Chadha & 6 Others Quit AAP, Set to Join BJP

AAP leader Raghav Chadha resigns and is set to join BJP along with six Rajya Sabha MPs, marking a major political development in India’s Parliament

April 24, 2026 - In what is being seen as a major blow to the Aadm Aadmi Party (AAP), Raghav Chadha, a Rajya Sabha MP and a prominent AAP leader, has resigned from the party and announced his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Chadha had recently faced tensions within AAP after being removed from the position of the party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, thus fuelling speculations about his exit.

Six other AAP Rajya Sabha MPs have also quit the party and announced a merger with the BJP. These include Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Vikram Sahney, Swati Maliwal, Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal.

Announcing this at a press conference, Chadha said, "We have decided that we, the 2/3rd members belonging to the AAP in Rajya Sabha, exercise the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP."

He further said, “The AAP, which I nurtured with my blood and sweat and gave 15 years of my youth to, has deviated from its principles, values and core morals. Now this party does not work in the interest of the nation but for its personal benefits…

At present, AAP has 10 members in the Rajya Sabha, including seven from Punjab and three from Delhi.
