Udaipur, May 5, 2026: After the overwhelming results in the five assembly elections in India on May 5, the leader of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi, took to Twitter (X) to caution members of the Congress party and otheer opposition parties, who were rejoicing in TMC's defeat in West Bengal.

In his message on this X handle, Gandhi called the "the theft of Assam and Bengal's mandate being a big step forward by the BBJP in its mission to destroy Indian democracy". He asked his party members and those of others, to put petty politics aside as the defeat is not about one party or another but about India.

His remarks come a day after the TMC exited Bengal politics after long reign. Gandhi's comment on "theft of mandate" resonated with the allegations raised by TMC supremo Mamta Banerjee, who claimed that more than 100 assembly seats were stolen, a claim that BJP obviously rejected.

TVK's 'Vijay' in Tamil Nadu

Vijay, the Tollywood super star turned politician has turned the tables on Tamil Nadu politics, the way once MG Ramachandran (MGR) did in the 1980's. MGR was a cultural icon and the first film star to become Chief Minister in India. TVK's founder Vijay takes on his new avataar. After avoiding media and doing limited road shows, his final whistle on the last day of campaigning, got him more seats than any other party. But with a hung mandate, his partners will decide whether Chennai welcomes a third silver screen Chief Minister.
