Two people were arrested in Udaipur, for allegedly posting inflammatory posts on social media, in relation to the Rajsamand murder. Meanwhile, police remand of the the accused, Shambhunath Regar has been extended by another 10 days.
Shambhunath was arrested for the brutal murder of a 40 year old laborer from West Bengal in Rajsamand last week, an episode that shocked the nation for the way it was executed, the intent and above all, the sharing of the murder video alongwith a hate speech targeting a particular community.
Raigar is now in custody, which has been extended to purport the actual intent of the murder, albeit even after the accused has confessed that the real motive was love jihad, a term that extremist Hindu groups use accusing Muslim men of entrapping Hindu women. The team investigating the matter is keeping the proceedings under cover and not disclosing facts. Rumors have been going around with the intent of diluting the matter. The police is also refuting the love jihad angle, keeping the investigations continuing.

Speaking of events, which really mean discussions, specially on social media – a few WhatsApp groups, to the extent of those where government servants and well known politicians are members are discussing the hate crime and applauding the murder and the accused. Two people from Udaipur have been arrested by Rajsamand police for promoting enmity between people on the basis of religion using inflammatory Facebook posts.
The murder incident seems to be taking a politico-religious turn. In Udaipur, local people, who are part of WhatsApp groups have also complained that members are resorting to inflammatory discussions over the murder incident and cuss words in group discussion, which have forced rational people to exit from such groups, which include close friends, business associates and even relatives. These people claim that members do not seem to be bound by propriety or even dignity for that matter.
