Coordinated air strike began at 2AM local time, with extensive explosions across the capital city of Caracas
Jan 03, 2026: The US administration has claimed that it has captured the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife after an extensive air raid against the South American nation at 2AM local time.
A statement by the US President Donald Trump on his official social media account said “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter."
As per media reports, the coordinated air strike that began at 2AM local time, witnessed extensive explosions across the capital city of Caracas and in the nearby states of Aragua, La Guaria and Miranda. The Venezuelan government immediately responded by declaring a state of national emergency and the Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino condemned the US attack calling it a foreign military intervention and attack on both civilians and military targets.
An official press conference has been scheduled at 1100hrs (2130hrs IST) on January 3 at Mar-a-Lago, Miami US.
