Youth Congress Chief Arrested in 'Shirtless' Protest Row
Indian Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib sent to four-day police custody; Congress and Rahul Gandhi extend support
Feb 24, 2026 - The national president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), Uday Bhanu Chib was arrested and sent to four-day police custody on Tuesday (February 24) in the shirtless protest row. A Delhi Court has allowed police to question Chib’s role in the India AI Impact Summit protest by the IYC members who had taken their shirts off to reveal slogans on their T-shirts at Bharat Mandapam on February 20.
The row erupted when around 10 IYC workers entered the exhibition hall at the Summit venue wearing and carrying white T-shirts with images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. They were detained and officials say appropriate legal action is being initiated against them.
Police have alleged that Chib was the mastermind of the protest, had organised it and was “communicating and monitoring each and everything”.
Meanwhile, the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi have come out in strong support of the detained IYC workers and Chib saying "peaceful protest is our right".
Sharing a post on X, Gandhi wrote, "The Congress Party and I stand firmly with our Babbar Sher comrades. Holding a mirror to power with the truth is not a crime, it is patriotism. Do not fear – truth and the Constitution are with us."
