UdaipurTimes, Nov 5, 2026 - With the objective of promoting environmental conservation, the judicious use of natural resources and transforming sustainable lifestyles into a mass movement, various awareness programmes and activities were organised across Rajasthan on Wednesday, November 4, the fourth day of BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week, under the theme Adopt Sustainable Food Systems.

Through these programmes, citizens were encouraged to adopt nutritious and locally available food products, promote the consumption of millets and traditional food grains, prevent food wastage and encourage environmentally friendly agricultural practices. The primary objective was to create public awareness about making the entire food cycle, from production to consumption, more sustainable, responsible and environmentally friendly.

The Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Women and Child Development Department, School Education and Higher Education Departments, and the Department of Information and Public Relations played an active role in organising these State-wide programmes.

Special emphasis was placed on the nutritional benefits of bajra (pearl millet), jowar (sorghum), ragi (finger millet) and other traditional grains, along with promoting their production and consumption.

Awareness campaigns were conducted to discourage food wastage. Government officials, employees, students and members of the public were also administered pledges to reduce food waste. People were made aware of the importance of:

  • Serving only as much food as required.
  • Making proper use of surplus food.
  • Preparing compost from biodegradable food waste.
  • Adopting healthy and sustainable eating habits
  • Promoting sustainable agriculture

Reducing Single-Use Plastic
On the fifth day of the week, November 5, awareness activities will be organised across Rajasthan under the theme Reduce Single-Use Plastic. Public will be encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly alternatives, such as:

  • Cloth and jute bags instead of plastic bags.
  • Reusable water bottles.
  • Other eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic products.
