Khadi Twice a Week
Khadi and Village Industries Board has sent a proposal to CM Vasundhara Raje, asking her to approve a proposal, wherein State Government employees will be asked to wear hand spun Khadi at least twice a week
In an effort to enhance the production and use of Khadi, albeit with an aim to provide employment to the hundreds of families having expertise in this field, the Rajasthan Khadi and Village Industries Board has sent a proposal to CM Vasundhara Raje, asking her to approve a proposal, wherein State Government employees will be asked to wear hand spun Khadi at least twice a week.
The proposal, it seems has met her approval and Raje is scheduled to make this announcement in October on Gandhi Jayanti, making Rajasthan the second state to implement this initiative after it has taken effect in Bihar.
Announcing this initiative during the inauguration of the Khadi Board at Udaipur, President of the state Khadi Board, Shambhu Dayal said that besides state government employees, even MPs and MLAs and public representatives may be asked to sport Khadi at least once a week.
PM Modi has, a number of times, elevated Khadi to the status of representation of Indian culture and has urged people to adopt Khadi in their daily lives.
The Board has proposed to supply 10 Charkhas with five solar energy run looms for each Khadi unit, enhancing income generation for artisans.
