Udaipur, April 12, 2025: Sunil Narine took 3 wickets with the ball and scored 44 runs from just 18 balls with the bat. He was the main reason behind Kolkata Knight Riders’ big 8-wicket win after restricting Chennai Super Kings to just 103 runs. After the match, when he received the Man of the Match award, he was asked if he had played a perfect game.
About the Missed Catch
Sunil Narine spoke about his missed catch of Vijay Shankar after the match. He joked, “Hopefully, I’ll take a good catch next time.” But apart from that one moment, Narine was the main reason behind Chennai Super Kings' disappointing loss.
CSK’s Trouble Maker Strikes
Once again, Narine troubled Chennai — something he has done to many teams over the years. His all-round performance led Kolkata Knight Riders to an easy 8-wicket win. CSK could manage only 103 runs. Narine’s consistent performances have now helped him create not one, but two big records in IPL history.
New Record: Most Economical Spell
Narine took 3 wickets for just 13 runs in 4 overs against CSK. This was the 13th time he bowled 4 overs giving away less than 15 runs in an IPL match — the most by any bowler in IPL history. Afghan spinner Rashid Khan is second with 12 such spells.
Narine Surpasses Ashwin
Narine also broke Ravichandran Ashwin’s record in the same match. Ashwin had bowled 4 overs without conceding a single boundary 15 times in IPL history. On Sunday, no CSK batter could hit a boundary against Narine, and now he holds the record alone — 16 such spells.
Now Close to a Global T20 Record
Narine is now just 6 wickets away from breaking a global T20 record. Samit Patel currently holds the record for most wickets (208) for a single team in T20s, taken while playing for Nottinghamshire. Narine has 203 wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders. With a few more good performances, he could soon set a world record too.
