20-Year-Old Ayush Shetty Stuns Fans with Bang Entry into Hong Kong Open Quarter-Finals

September 12, 2025: A new star has risen in Indian badminton. India’s 20-year-old shuttler Ayush Shetty has been doing very well lately. He has reached the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open Super 500. He won a big match by defeating Japan’s former world number 2 Kodai Naraoka, who was the silver medalist in the 2023 World Championship.

Ayush Shetty will play in the next round along with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, and Lakshya Sen. He played very well in the match that lasted 72 minutes. He won the match 21-19, 12-21, 21-14. The match lasted more than an hour, and the Indian shuttler surprised his opponent with his great performance.

Ayush Shetty Reaches Quarter-Finals

20-year-old Ayush Shetty made it to the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open 2025. His win is being called the biggest upset of the tournament so far. Ayush, from Karnataka, had also won the US Open Super 300 in June. His excellent court coverage and fast shots helped him win the deciding game. This is the biggest win of his young career.

Ayush will now face his training partner and fellow Indian Lakshya Sen in the men’s singles quarter-final. Both players are from the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy.

Lakshya Sen and Satwik-Chirag Shine

Lakshya Sen made a strong comeback by defeating his compatriot HS Prannoy 15-21, 21-18, 21-10. This is Lakshya’s first BWF World Tour quarter-final since March.

India’s men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, also played well. They defeated Thailand’s Chaloempon Sukphun and Nanthakarn Tiratsakul in three games. The world number nine pair lost the first game 18-21 but won the next two games 21-15, 21-11. Their next quarter-final match will be against Malaysia’s Junaid Arif and Roy King Yap.
