A grand sports event is scheduled to take place in Rajasthan, where approximately 56 lakh players will showcase their skills. What makes this event even more remarkable is that the state government is organizing it on such a large scale with the aim of securing a nomination for a world record. Known as the 'Rajiv Gandhi Rural and Urban Olympics,' this sports extravaganza is set to commence on August 5, 2023 and will continue until September 18. The total number of registered players for this event is approximately 56 lakhs.

The Rural-Urban Olympics will feature a diverse range of sports in which the participating players will showcase their skills. These sports include Kabaddi, Tennis-Ball Cricket, Basketball, Tug of War, Volleyball, Football, Shooting Ball, Athletics, and several other exciting events.

On Monday 17 July, 2023, Chief Secretary Rajasthan, Usha Sharma conducted a preparatory meeting with the officials at the Secretariat to discuss the organization of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural and Urban Olympic Games. During the meeting, she emphasized the importance of hosting the event in a magnificent and impressive manner, drawing inspiration from the scale and creativity seen in inflation relief camps. She instructed the officials to ensure that the event is organized on a grand scale, showcasing innovation and excellence.
 

During the meeting, Chief Secretary Usha Sharma emphasized the need for extensive publicity of the event at the local level. She instructed that the Rajiv Gandhi Rural and Urban Olympic Games should be organized in a grand manner, with close coordination among the relevant departments and district magistrates. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of connecting the sports event with the general public. CS Usha Sharma expressed her vision for the event to be of such a large and comprehensive scale that it could potentially be nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records. She instructed the officials to ensure that the event creates a lasting impact not only within the state but also nationally and internationally.

As part of the rewards and incentives, villages that emerge as winners at the state level will receive funds of Rs. 50 lakh each through the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme for the construction of sports stadiums. Additionally, sportspersons who achieve state-level championship status will be given priority in the recruitment process for the home guard. Moreover, measures will be taken to prioritize admission for sportspersons in government colleges. At the district level, winning players will be provided with track suits, while at the tehsil level, they will be awarded medals and certificates. Furthermore, all approximately 56 lakh participating players will receive T-shirts as a token of participation in the games.
