Abhishek Sharma Hospitalised due to Stomach Infection ahead of IND vs NAM match

Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised due to a stomach infection, and his availability for the Namibia match remains uncertain. If he fails to recover in time, Sanju Samson may open with Ishan Kishan in India’s next T20 World Cup 2026 game.

February 11, 2026: India’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma is unwell and has been admitted to the hospital due to a stomach infection, according to a BCCI source.

Sharma was not feeling well during the team dinner at head coach Gautam Gambhir’s residence on Sunday. He looked uncomfortable and was the first player to leave the dinner.

As per the source, if the ICC World No. 1 T20I batter does not recover in time, the Suryakumar Yadav-led team may allow Sanju Samson to open the innings with Ishan Kishan in the next match.

Samson is going through a poor run of form. In the recent T20I series against New Zealand, he scored 10, 6, 0, 24 and 6.

Earlier on Tuesday, India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate shared updates on some key players, including Jasprit Bumrah and Abhishek Sharma, during a press conference in Delhi.

“As for Abhishek, he has a tummy issue. But we are hopeful he will be fit for the match against Namibia,” Doeschate said.

In Abhishek’s absence, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson were the first to take the nets and are likely to open the innings against Namibia. Even if Abhishek regains fitness in time, the team management may choose not to risk him with a high-profile clash against Pakistan scheduled for February 15 in Colombo.

Meanwhile, both Kishan and Samson endured a challenging session in the nets. Hardik Pandya produced a dominant spell against Kishan, while Arshdeep Singh troubled Samson, whose lack of confidence was evident. Samson was later seen receiving extended treatment on his left arm.
