ICC Fines Afghanistan Cricketer: Reason Behind His Punishment
Star batter Ibrahim Zadran bags Player of the Series but fined by ICC for expressing on-field frustration in violation of Code of Conduct
Udaipur, Oct 16, 2025: After facing a 3-0 clean sweep in the T20 series, Afghanistan made a comeback by defeating Bangladesh 3-0 in the ODI series. In the third and final ODI played in the UAE, host Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by 200 runs. Afghanistan was hosting the series.
The series started poorly for Afghanistan, as they suffered a heavy 3-0 drubbing by Bangladesh in the T20 series. However, the ODIs ended on a positive note for the hosts. During the third match, Afghanistan batsman Ibrahim Zadran behaved in a way that the ICC did not approve of. As a result, he was fined 15 percent of his match fee.
What Was the Punishment?
Ibrahim Zadran, returning to the dressing room after being dismissed for 95 in the 37th over of Afghanistan's innings, vented his anger by hitting some items near the team area. The match referee said this was against the ICC Code of Conduct.
The ICC found Zadran guilty of a Level 1 violation of the Code of Conduct and fined him 15 percent of his match fee. The ICC said that Level 1 violations can lead to different penalties, from a warning to a fine of up to 50 percent of the match fee. One or two demerit points can also be added depending on the offense.
Demerit Point Added
In Ibrahim’s case, one demerit point has been added to his record. This is his first offence in 24 months. If he does not commit another offence soon, he will not get a match ban.
The ICC said, "Ibrahim admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Graeme LaBruy of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing."
Player of the Series
Ibrahim Zadran played very well in the series, scoring a total of 213 runs in three matches. This included 23 runs in the first match and 95 runs in each of the last two matches. He was named Player of the Series.
