Shaheen Afridi Taken Off Bowling by Umpire After Full Tosses
Shaheen Shah Afridi taken off the bowling attack during Big Bash League debut after two waist-high full tosses; Tim Seifert’s century powers Melbourne to a big total
Dec 15, 2025 - In Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi is considered one of the greatest bowlers of the current era. However, after a difficult start to his career, the left-arm bowler has struggled to perform consistently. While other bowlers improve with experience, Shaheen’s skills seem to have dulled.
He recently made his debut in the Australian T20 league, the Big Bash League (BBL), but was removed from bowling by the umpire.
Shaheen was playing for the Brisbane Heat. He was bowling his third over, but after delivering the fourth ball, the umpire reprimanded him and took him out of the attack. Shaheen looked angry but forced a smile, put on his cap, and walked off the field.
Why Shaheen Was Reprimanded
In that over, Shaheen bowled two full tosses above waist height. Because of this, the umpire complained to his captain, then reprimanded Shaheen and took him off the bowling attack. This happened in the 18th over of the Melbourne Renegades’ innings. Shaheen’s full toss was aimed at the left-handed batsman, Oliver Peak, who managed to save himself. The wicketkeeper also could not stop the ball, and the batsmen took two runs.
Afridi apologised, but the on-field umpire spoke to his captain, Nathan McSweeney, and removed Shaheen from bowling.
Tim Seifert’s Century
In the same match, Melbourne opener Tim Seifert scored a brilliant century. He made 102 runs off 56 balls, including nine fours and six sixes. Peak also contributed with 57 runs off 29 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes. Thanks to these two innings, Melbourne scored 212 runs for the loss of five wickets.
