June 9, 2025 - Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz won the Men’s Singles title at the French Open 2025. He defeated world number 1, Jannik Sinner, with scores of 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) in the final held at Philippe Chatrier Court, Roland Garros. Alcaraz claimed the French Open Men’s Singles title for the second year in a row. On the other hand, it was Italy’s Jannik Sinner’s first appearance in a French Open final.

Reign Continues on Red Clay

History was made at the French Open on June 8. In a thrilling final that lasted 5 hours and 29 minutes, Alcaraz kept his dominance on the red clay and won the French Open title for the second year in a row. With this win, Alcaraz became only the third player in this century - after Rafael Nadal and Gustavo Kuerten - to defend the Roland Garros title. This was also Sinner’s first loss in a Grand Slam final.

Longest Men’s Final in French Open

The final between Alcaraz and Sinner became the longest Men’s Singles final in French Open history. The previous record was set in 1982 when Mats Wilander and Guillermo Vilas played a match that lasted 4 hours and 42 minutes.

Stunning Comeback

Alcaraz made a great comeback after losing the first two sets. His win proved that he is ready to carry forward the legacy of Nadal at Roland Garros. With this victory, he has now beaten Sinner five times in a row and ended Sinner’s 20-match winning streak in Grand Slams.

This final was also special as it was the first time two players born in the 2000s faced each other in a Grand Slam final. Together, they have won seven of the last eight Grand Slam titles, showing the rise of the new generation in tennis.

How the Match Unfolded

At the start, Sinner saved his serve in a 12-minute game but lost his next service after a forehand error. Sinner bounced back to win the first set and took a 4-1 lead in the second. Alcaraz then showed aggressive play, fought back strongly and took the second set to a tiebreak, but Sinner won it with a great forehand shot.

In the third set, Alcaraz continued his fight and pushed the match into the fifth set. He saved three match points in the fourth set and forced a deciding set.

Super Tiebreak

In the final set, both players broke each other’s serves. But in the super tiebreak, Alcaraz played brilliantly and won 10-2 to seal the title.

Sinner’s Dream on Clay Unfulfilled

Sinner, who had already won the US Open and Australian Open, could not complete his dream of winning Roland Garros. He had some good chances during the match but failed at key moments.

After a recent doping controversy, this was an important match for Sinner, but Alcaraz’s victory showed he is ready to be Nadal’s true successor on clay. It also marks the beginning of a new era where the younger generation is clearly taking over the tennis world.
