February 24, 2025 - Teen sensation, Russia's 17-year-old tennis player Mirra Aleksandrovna Andreeva has made history by becoming the youngest player to win a WTA 1000 title and entering the world’s top 10 for the first time in her career. At the age of 17 years and 299 days, Andreeva won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships trophy by defeating Denmark's Clara Tauson 7-6(1), 6-1 in a 106-minute match to clinch the Women's Singles final.
Before her, Nicole Vaidisova won this title on August 9, 2006, when at the age of 17 years she became the 12th-youngest player in WTA Tour history to be ranked in the top 10.
Andreeva took one hour and 46 minutes to defeat the 22-year-old Tauson and fell to her knees as she celebrated the victory. Her rank has now up to No. 9 spot from 14 which makes her the youngest woman to reach the elusive top 10 club since 2007.
Andreeva, thrilled by this victory, said she feels excited to have won the biggest title of her career.
Andreeva started playing tennis at a very young age with her older sister. Her role models are former Swiss tennis player Roger Federer and American basketball player LeBron James whom she follows religiously and tries to emulate their achievements.
Andreeva became the fifth player in the last 20 years to win a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) title before turning 18. Other players in this list include Maria Sharapova (Russia), Michaela Krajicek (the Netherlands), Nicole Vaidisova (Germany) and Coco Gauff (USA).
