May 21, 2026: Kolkata Knight Riders will be without young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi for their final league-stage match against Delhi Capitals at Eden Gardens on Sunday, May 24. The 21-year-old suffered a concussion during KKR’s previous match against the Mumbai Indians after colliding with teammate Varun Chakravarthy while attempting to take a catch near the boundary. Following the incident, Raghuvanshi experienced neck pain, dizziness, and headaches, forcing him to leave the field during the game. Tejasvi Dahiya later replaced him as KKR’s concussion substitute.

With Raghuvanshi unavailable, KKR promoted Manish Pandey to number three during the run chase. The experienced batter played an important innings of 45 runs from 33 balls and helped the team register a four-wicket victory. After the match, KKR assistant coach Shane Watson provided an update on Raghuvanshi’s condition and revealed that the youngster was eager to continue playing despite the injury.

“He ran a long way to try and take that catch. Unfortunately, the collision with Varun caused neck pain, dizziness, and headaches a few hours later. He is a very tough competitor, and we certainly missed him from a batting perspective,” Watson said during the post-match press conference.

ICC Concussion Rules Force KKR To Rest Raghuvanshi

According to ICC concussion regulations, any player diagnosed with concussion symptoms must complete a mandatory seven-day recovery period before returning to competitive cricket. Due to these safety protocols, Raghuvanshi will not be available for KKR’s crucial clash against the Delhi Capitals. The team management and medical staff have decided not to take any risks with the youngster’s recovery.

His absence comes as a major setback for Kolkata because Raghuvanshi has been one of the team’s best performers in IPL 2026. The talented batter has scored 422 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 146.52 and is currently KKR’s leading run-scorer this season. His fearless batting and consistency in pressure situations have played a huge role in Kolkata’s recent comeback in the tournament.

KKR are still fighting for a place in the IPL 2026 playoffs, which makes their upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals extremely important. The team will now depend more on senior players like Ajinkya Rahane, Sunil Narine, and Rinku Singh to step up in Raghuvanshi’s absence.

Despite winning six of their last seven matches, KKR’s qualification chances are still complicated. They need Rajasthan Royals to lose against Mumbai Indians and then defeat Delhi Capitals in their own final league match. If Punjab Kings beat Lucknow Super Giants, KKR may also need to improve their Net Run Rate to secure a playoff spot.

Although the situation remains difficult, Kolkata have shown remarkable improvement after losing five of their first six matches earlier in the season. Under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, the three-time IPL champions have managed to keep their playoff hopes alive heading into the final stage of the league campaign.
