Egypt even thought they had scored a third goal earlier in the match, only for the effort to be ruled out following a controversial refereeing decision. Had that goal stood, the contest might have been effectively over.

With Argentina trailing 2-0 well into the second half, it seemed their hopes of defending the World Cup title were slipping away.

Messi Sparks the Comeback as Argentina Find Another Gear

Just when Argentina appeared out of ideas, their captain once again reminded the football world why he remains one of the greatest players in history.

Rather than allowing his missed penalty and earlier struggles to define his performance, Messi continued searching for opportunities. His determination eventually changed the entire course of the match.

Argentina pulled one goal back in the 79th minute, with Messi delivering a perfectly weighted ball into the box for Cristian Romero, who powered a header beyond Shobeir to make it 2-1.

The goal transformed the momentum completely.

In the 93rd minute, Lautaro Martínez delivered an inviting cross into the penalty area. Enzo Fernández timed his run perfectly and powered a brilliant header into the back of the net, completing one of the most dramatic turnarounds of the tournament.

From 2-0 down to a 3-2 victory in just over 30 minutes, Argentina had produced a comeback that will be talked about for years.
