Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi has reached a live Elo rating of 2800 points, becoming only the second Indian chess player to achieve this milestone. Before him, legendary chess player Viswanathan Anand held this honour.

At just 21 years old, Arjun is now the youngest Indian to surpass the 2800 rating mark. He achieved this remarkable feat while representing Team Alkaloid in the European Chess Club Cup 2024.

In the tournament’s fifth round, Arjun defeated Russian player Dmitry Andreikin. This victory not only boosted his rating but also elevated him to World No. 3 in chess rankings.

Globally, Arjun is the 16th player to cross the 2800 rating mark. The youngest player to achieve this is Alireza Firouzja from France, who reached this milestone at 18 years and 5 months old.
