Liverpool Star Arnold Confirms Exit, Set to Join Real Madrid After ‘Toughest Decision’

Udaipur, May 5, 2025: Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and could join Real Madrid as a free agent. Rumours about this move had been circulating for a long time, and now they have finally come true. Alexander-Arnold is ending his two-decade-long association with Liverpool. He confirmed the news himself in a message posted on social media this afternoon. Liverpool also shared the 26-year-old right-back’s decision on their official website.

Alexander-Arnold Breaks Silence on Exit

"I know many of you may be wondering or disappointed why I haven't said anything yet. My goal has been to focus my full attention on the best interests of the team," wrote Trent Alexander-Arnold on social media.

Grateful for 20 Years at Liverpool

He thanked the club and its supporters, saying, "For 20 years, this club has been my life, my whole world. The support and love I have received from everyone, both inside and outside the club, from the academy to now, will be forever remembered. I will be forever indebted to you all."

From Academy to First Team Star

Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool’s academy in 2004 at just 6 years old. He made his way through the Under-14 and Under-16 squads before reaching the first team in 2016. Since then, he has been a key part of Liverpool's defence.

So far, he has played 352 matches for the senior team, scoring 23 goals and assisting 92 times. He has won eight major trophies, including the Champions League, Premier League, and Club World Cup. Notably, in his long career, he has never received a red card, showing great discipline on the field.

Real Madrid Move Likely, But Not Yet Official

Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool will end on June 1. He cannot officially join Real Madrid before that date, which makes him unlikely to play for the Spanish club in the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, Spanish media claim that under a special FIFA-approved transfer window, he may be allowed to sign early. If that happens, he won’t receive Liverpool’s June salary. Also, although he will be a free agent, Liverpool may still have to pay Real Madrid a small transfer fee.
