IND vs SA: Arshdeep Concedes 7 Wides in One Over - Coach Loses Cool
Udaipur, Dec 12, 2025: Mullanpur is already Arshdeep Singh’s home ground. It is also the home ground of his IPL team, Punjab Kings. He has delivered many of his best IPL spells on this very pitch.
But in an unexpected performance, Arshdeep Singh’s name entered an embarrassing record against South Africa (IND vs SA) on the same ground. The left-arm pacer bowled seven wides in a single over — something no Indian bowler had ever done before. His over lasted 13 balls, and with this, he now shares an unwanted record with Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq.
Arshdeep Singh’s 13-Ball Over Sparks Disappointment
The Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq bowled an over in 13 balls against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2024, breaking the previous record of South Africa’s Sisanda Magala, who bowled an over in 12 balls against Pakistan in Johannesburg in 2021. Naveen set a new unwanted record, and on Thursday, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh joined that list. Coach Gautam Gambhir was also seen upset and disappointed by the incident.
India and South Africa faced each other in the second T20I of the five-match series in Mullanpur on Thursday. India lost this match and the series now stands squared at 1-1.
The incident happened in the 11th over of the South African innings when Arshdeep came to bowl. He is usually trusted by captains to take wickets in the middle overs. Quinton de Kock hit him over the head for a six with the first ball of the over and went on to become South Africa’s highest scorer in the match.
Arshdeep then lost control of his line and length. He bowled two wides in a row, followed by a dot ball, and then four more wides consecutively. He added another wide with the sixth legal delivery, making it seven wides in total. The over stretched to 13 balls and conceded 18 runs.
TV cameras repeatedly caught Coach Gautam Gambhir in the dugout, visibly frustrated and upset. For Arshdeep, this is an over he will surely want to forget quickly.
