Udaipur, Nov 04, 2025: The five-match Ashes series between England and Australia will start on November 21 and end on January 8. This historic battle between the two teams is set to capture the attention of cricket fans around the world. After England announced their squad, Australia has now named its team for the first Ashes Test. Marnus Labuschagne has made his return to the side.
Uncapped left-handed batsman Jake Weatherald has received his first international call-up and could open the innings in place of Constas. Weatherald earned his spot after an excellent domestic season. The 31-year-old was the top run-scorer in the last Sheffield Shield, scoring 906 runs in 18 innings at an average of 50.33. He has continued his good form this season too, scoring 248 runs in six innings at an average of 41.33, leading to his first Ashes selection.
Labuschagne, who was not part of the Test series against the West Indies, has returned to the squad after a strong start to the domestic season for Queensland. Chief selector George Bailey said, “The team has a good balance, and 14 of the selected players are playing in the next round of the Sheffield Shield. We will continue to assess their performance as the first Test approaches. As Pat Cummins recovers from a back stress injury, Steve Smith will lead the team in his absence.”
