June 18, 2025 - India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has retired from international cricket, has become embroiled in controversies. He is currently playing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and has been accused of ball tampering.

Just a few days ago, Ashwin reacted angrily towards the umpire for which he was penalised. He argued with the umpire and later flung down his gloves in frustration. Now, a team has accused him of ball tampering, adding to his troubles.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the Seichem Madurai Panthers have accused Ashwin of ball tampering. The incident took place during the TNPL match between Dindigul Dragons and Madurai Panthers on June 14 at the SCF Cricket Ground.

The franchise has filed a written complaint with the TNPL. They claimed that Ashwin and his team used towels that had a special chemical on them, which changed the condition of the ball. The franchise also said that even after repeated warnings, Ashwin and his team did not stop using the towels.

League CEO Responds

However, TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan has rejected the allegations made against Ashwin’s team. He said if Madurai Panthers have any evidence, they must submit it.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Prasanna said, “They have filed a complaint which we have received. Normally, complaints should be made within 24 hours, but we have accepted it and asked them to provide proof of the allegations. If we receive any solid proof, we will form an independent committee to look into it. But if there is no evidence, then it is not right to make such serious allegations against a player or a franchise.”
