R Ashwin Set for Team India Comeback in Major Upcoming Tournament

Udaipur, Sept 20, 2025: Ashwin, who retired from international cricket in December last year during the Border-Gavaskar series, is ready to return. He also retired from the IPL earlier this year and has not played any competitive match since then. Now, 38-year-old off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will play for Team India in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025.
This news was confirmed by Cricket Hong Kong on its official channels. In a statement, Cricket Hong Kong said, “We are proud to welcome R Ashwin to the Hong Kong Sixes 2025. His presence in Team India takes the tournament to a higher level, bringing one of the best cricketers of this era to Hong Kong.”
Hong Kong Cricket President Burji Shroff said, “Sixes is about innovation, fun, and world-class talent. Ashwin shows all these qualities. We are sure fans will enjoy a great display of cricket.”
Ashwin Ready for Hong Kong Sixes
Ashwin said, “We all watched the Hong Kong Sixes on TV as children, and I always wanted to play in this format. It needs a different plan and is very exciting. I am happy to play with my old teammates and face some of the best players from other teams. This will be a good challenge for us.”
The Hong Kong Sixes came back in 2024 after seven years. The 2025 edition will be held from November 7 to 9 at the Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong. Last year, Sri Lanka won the title by beating Pakistan in the final.
Ashwin’s Career Highlights
Ashwin took 187 wickets in 221 IPL matches, making him the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the league. His economy rate was 7.2. In international cricket, he has 537 Test wickets, the second-most by an Indian after Anil Kumble. He also took 156 wickets in ODIs and 72 in T20 Internationals. In 106 Test matches, Ashwin has taken eight ten-wicket hauls and scored six centuries.
