Asia Cup: India Beat Pakistan in High Octane Face Off at Dubai

Playing a Captains Innings, Suryakumar led the Indian team to its second victory in the Asia Cup; SKY scored 47 off 37 balls

Sept 14, 2025: Finally, the neighbors clash on the cricket pitch after boycott calls from different quarters. India beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup league round match played at Dubai on Sept 14. The stadium would have been packed, but for the boycott calls that led to few fans staying away from the neutral venue. India won by 7 wickets and 25 balls to spare.

Pakistan Falter

Pakistan were restricted to 127 with the Indian bowlers scalping 9 off the Pakistan batting lineup. The  toss were won by Pakistan and they chose to get a score to defend in this match, which seemingly wasn't enough. Pakistan lost its first 6 wickets before the score reached 3 digits. Pakistan were reeling at 64/6 and it was a committed performance by Sahibzada Farhan, who score a well balanced 40 of 44 balls, with wickets falling around him. His opening partner Salim Ayub fell to Hardik Pandya, in the first ball of the match.Farthan was the seventh wicket, when Pakistan were at 83 at the end of 16 overs.Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi saved face for the Pakistan team, by playing a cracking game towards the end of the Pakistan innings. He scored 33 off just 16 balls getting the highest strike rate (206.25) for the Pakistani side taking them to a score of 127, something to fight for. Kuldeep Yadav led the Indian bowling with 3 wickets at an economy rate of 4.50. Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel left the field with 2 wickets each and Pandya and Varun managed 1 each.  Pandya, Bumrah and Axar got India their early breakthroughs, which put Pakistan on the backfoot early in the match.

India Clinical

After a clinical performance with the ball, the Indian chase began with a flambouyant 33 of 13 by Abhishek Sharma, who followed Vice Captain Gill to the pavillion. Gill (10 off 7) was the first casualty for the Indians when the score was 22. Abhishek, who played at a strike rate of 238.46, the highest in the match, followed when the score was 41. Tilak Verma fell next to spinner Salim Ayub, scoring 31 off 31 deliveries, when India was at 97. Salim Ayub, who has yet to get a score on board, took the first three Indian wickets, impacting the game. Suryakumar, playing a captains Innings with 47 off 37 deliveries. He took the Indian team to victory on his birthday. India won by 7 wickets and 25 balls to spare.
