Asia Cup India Squad: Will Gill be Dropped?

Aug 18, 2025 - The Indian team for the Asia Cup has not been announced yet. Team India's squad for this tournament may be revealed on August 19. The selection committee is likely to meet to pick the team in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 19. After that, it will be clear which players will get a chance and who will be dropped.

T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav will also attend the selection panel meeting. Meanwhile, a report from Cricbuzz says the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, may take three bold decisions in this meeting.

1. Gill to be Dropped?

According to the report, Shubman Gill may not find a place in the team for Asia Cup 2025. The selection committee can choose Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as openers. Yashasvi Jaiswal will be the third option for opening. Gill may get a chance only if coach Gautam Gambhir pushes for him. If that happens, Yashasvi may be dropped again.

2. No place for Siraj?

Even after taking the most wickets for India on the England tour, Mohammed Siraj may be left out of the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be selected for the tournament. The selection of Siraj has become tough as Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana are available as pace options. Mohammed Shami may also miss out.

3. Iyer may be ignored again

Shreyas Iyer, who did well in the middle order in IPL 2025, may not be picked for the Asia Cup T20I squad. Tilak Verma, Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh are likely to be chosen for the middle order. Shivam Dubey and Washington Sundar may join Hardik Pandya as all-rounders in the team.
