[Asian Power Lifting 2012] Bhupendra Vyas Back in Indian team

Taking a swift turn in the team selection procedure of Asian Power lifting Championship which will start from 1st to 7th May, 2012; Bhupendra Vyas from Udaipur has been selected in team India.

According to Vinod Sahu, Joint Secretary of District Power lifting Association, Bhupendra Vyas was not in the team in the first list as he missed out the selection procedure tournament held in Kangda, Himachal Pradesh.

According to Vinod Sahu, Joint Secretary of District Power lifting Association, Bhupendra Vyas was not in the team in the first list as he missed out the selection procedure tournament held in Kangda, Himachal Pradesh.

“One of the power lifter withdrew his name from the list due to injury which gave Bhupendra an opportunity to come back,” said Sahu.

“Although he missed the Federation Cup his name was reserved as he was representing Udaipur Police Department in a Power lifting Tournament in Jaipur, so the board decided to put Bhupendra Vyas in the team,” added Vinod Sahu.

Bhupendra Vyas will represent Udaipur with Samir Khan.

A training camp has started at Youth Hostel located at Chitrakoot Nagar and will continue till 30th April. 22 players have also arrived from Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The coach for the Indian team is Arjun Awardee, Sanjeev Bhaskarana who has won 6 gold medals including gold in the Asian Championship in 1991 and in the World Championship in 1996. He also holds a record of making the two World records in the same year.

The event will take place at Kohinoor Hall, Hotel Inder Residency. This is the second time when Udaipur is Asian Power Lifting Championship. The countries including India, Pakistan, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, Iraq, Philippines, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Mongolia and 18 others would be participating in the event.
