AUS vs SA: Australia Reveal ODI and T20I Squads, Travis Head Returns Along with Key Stars

July 30, 2025: Australia has announced its squad for the ODI and T20 International series against South Africa. Australia and South Africa will play three T20 International matches and three ODI matches, starting from August 10. Batsman Matt Short has returned to the squad. Mitch Owen has got a place in the ODI team for the first time. He recently impressed with his strong performance against West Indies. Mitchell Marsh will lead the ODI team in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins.

Squad Changes

After the West Indies series, the Australian team has dropped several players including Sean Abbott, Jack Fraser McGurk, Tanveer Sangha, Cooper Connolly and Aaron Hardy. The team is now focusing on preparations for the T20 World Cup to be held next year.

Australia's chief selector George Bailey said, "We are preparing for the T20 World Cup and the way the team showed depth and flexibility in the West Indies is very positive. It was great to see the ability to change batting positions and bowl at any time in the innings."

He also added, "Mitch Owen and Matt Kuhnemann made their debut and Nathan Ellis played all five matches, which was a good sign. Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood are back, so as a group we will try to move forward by keeping every opportunity in mind."
