IND vs BAN: Khalid Jamil’s India Suffers Historic Loss After 22 Years
Morsalin’s early strike seals historic win as India finish last in Asian Cup group
Nov 19, 2025 - History shows that India had lost only three matches against Bangladesh before Tuesday. The last time India lost was in 2003. Since then, India and Bangladesh have faced each other many times. Bangladesh had come close to winning, but victory never came. On Tuesday, that history changed. After 22 years, the Tigers of Bangladesh beat India in football. India, without Sunil Chhetri, lost 1-0 to Hamza Chowdhury in Dhaka.
Both teams were already eliminated from the competition. Still, the match was intense. The diplomatic situation between the two countries also added to the tension. The young Indian team, without Sunil Chhetri, could not fight well on the field. Khalid Jamil’s team started the match brightly, creating early chances.
But in the 12th minute, Morsalin scored the first goal, against the flow of the game, giving Bangladesh a historic lead. Even as stars like Hamza Chowdhury and captain Sohail Rana tried to break India’s defense, Morsalin’s smart finish left India stunned.
India Struggles as Bangladesh Dominates Midfield
Throughout the first half, Bangladesh controlled the midfield. Hamza and other players played a key role in stopping India’s attacks. India tried to attack using long passes, but it did not work.
In the second half, after Mahesh and Mohammad Sanan were brought on, the pace of the game improved slightly. Rahim Ali, Sanan and others created chances, but none of them worked. In fact, no clear goal-scoring opportunities were created for the rest of the match, and the score remained 1-0.
Because of this defeat, Team India finished last in the group stage of the Asian Cup. The chances of moving up are now very low. Indian football is in a difficult state. It is unclear whether the country’s top league will continue. Players face an uncertain future, and federation officials are focused on politics rather than football.
Even so, Indian football is no longer completely in misery. There are signs that the game may slowly start to improve.
