May 13, 2026: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) fined Pat Cummins INR 12 lakh after Sunrisers Hyderabad were found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans. As it was SRH’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Hyderabad skipper received the minimum penalty.
Meanwhile, SRH endured a humiliating 82-run defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium as their batting line-up completely collapsed in the chase. Pursuing a target of 169, Hyderabad were considered favourites, but their innings never recovered after the early dismissals of the top order. The middle-order batters struggled badly under pressure as SRH were eventually bowled out for just 86 runs — their lowest-ever total in IPL history.
For Gujarat, Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder starred with the ball, claiming three wickets each and dismantling the SRH batting unit with disciplined pace bowling. The commanding victory helped the Shubman Gill-led side climb to the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 16 points from 12 matches.
Despite a difficult start to the season, where Gujarat lost four of their first seven matches, the team has completely turned things around in recent weeks. Since Holder became a regular part of the playing XI, GT have looked far more balanced and confident, winning five consecutive matches to strengthen their playoff hopes.
Sundar Praises Gujarat’s Clarity And Consistency
Washington Sundar once again delivered a crucial performance for the Gujarat Titans with the bat. The all-rounder scored a valuable half-century and shared a key 60-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan after the hosts were reduced to 64/4 on a sluggish Ahmedabad surface. Their stand helped Gujarat recover and post a competitive total.
Speaking after the match, Sundar credited the team management and players for maintaining consistency during the second half of the tournament. He said the competition has been extremely intense this season, but Gujarat have managed to stay calm and stick to their strengths instead of overcomplicating things. He also praised the squad for maintaining clarity in pressure situations, which has played a major role in their impressive winning streak.
SRH’s chase never truly got going after they lost openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma in successive overs. Mohammed Siraj struck in the very first over to dismiss Head, while Rabada followed it up by removing Sharma in the next. Ishan Kishan showed brief intent with a couple of boundaries before edging Rabada behind the stumps, leaving SRH reeling early in the innings.
