June 23, 2025 - The third day of the first Test match between India and England ended early because of rain. Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah made a big impact. He played a key role in stopping England’s first innings at 465 runs. Bumrah took five important wickets. India now has a lead of 96 runs. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill remained unbeaten at the end of the day.

England started the day with three wickets down. Ollie Pope, who was on 100 runs, and Harry Brook (0) came to the crease. Pope added only 6 more runs before Prasidh Krishna gave India their fourth breakthrough, and the first breakthrough of the day. Captain Ben Stokes didn’t last long either. He was dismissed by Mohammad Siraj after scoring 20 runs from 52 balls.

Brook was then supported by Jamie Smith, and the two added 73 runs together. Brook got two chances but still missed his century, falling in the nervous 90s. He was out for 99 runs after Krishna got him caught by Shardul Thakur on a short-pitched delivery.

Bumrah Takes Five Wickets

In the end, Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse built a half-century partnership and took England’s score past 450. Woakes scored 38 runs and became Bumrah’s fourth wicket. Bumrah completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Josh Tongue. Krishna took three wickets and Siraj took two. India finished with a 6-run lead after the first innings.

India Lose Two Wickets

In their second innings, India lost two wickets before the day ended and increased the lead to 96 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for 4 runs. Sai Sudharsan, who had scored a duck in the first innings, made 30 runs this time but once again got out to Stokes. Owing to rain, the day’s play ended early. Rahul remained unbeaten on 47, while Gill was not out on 6.
