SA Innings

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bat first. At the start, the Proteas batters played normally against Mohammed Siraj. But Bumrah slowly found his rhythm and changed the game. South Africa kept losing wickets one after another. Bumrah bowled five maiden overs in his 14-over spell. He took 5 wickets for just 27 runs. With this, he has now taken 5 or more wickets in an innings 16 times in his career. He dismissed Markram, Rickelton, Georgie, Harmer, and Maharaj.

Bumrah Turns the Game

The pitch at Eden was expected to help the spinners. The Indian team wanted a turning wicket. They also planned to trouble South Africa with four spinners. But on this pitch, Jasprit Bumrah stole all the attention.

In the first ten overs, it did not look like the South African batters would struggle. Their openers, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, scored 57 runs in the first 10 overs. But in the 11th over, Bumrah dismissed Rickelton. In the 13th over, he also removed Markram. They scored 31 and 23. Then Kuldeep Yadav dismissed captain Temba Bavuma for 3. At lunch, South Africa were 105 for 3.

Siraj, Axar and Bumrah Finish the Job

Mohammed Siraj did not do well with the new ball. He gave 8 runs per over. But with the old ball, he came back strong. He dismissed Kyle Verreynne for 16 and Marco Jansen for a duck in the same over.

Before tea, Axar Patel dismissed Corbin Bosch for 3. South Africa reached tea at 154 for 8. The Indian bowlers stopped the quick scoring.

After tea, the innings ended in just 3 overs. Bumrah bowled Simon Harmer for 5 and then bowled Keshav Maharaj for 0 with a yorker. South Africa were all out for 159 runs. At the end of the days play, India were placed at 37 for the loss of 1 wicket, having played 20 overs. Jaiswal was bowled out by Marco Jansen, while KL Rahul and Washington Sundar are at the crease.
