Carlos Alcaraz Outplays Novak Djokovic to Win First Australian Open Title

February 1, 2026:  Novak Djokovic did not win his 25th Grand Slam this time. The Serbian star failed to make history. He could not beat Margaret Court’s record to become the highest Grand Slam winner in men’s and women’s tennis.

Carlos Alcaraz made history by defeating Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 to win the Australian Open. The Spanish star won the Australian Open for the first time.

At just 22 years old, Alcaraz became the youngest player to complete the Career Grand Slam. He broke the record of his countryman, Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz has now won seven Grand Slam titles. He has already won the US Open once, Wimbledon twice, and the French Open twice.

Final Falls Short of Expectations

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic reached the final after two epic semifinal wins. However, the final did not fully meet expectations. Both players had one or two break points, but they mostly held their serve. Djokovic, 38, started strongly and won the first set 6-2 in 33 minutes. Alcaraz replied in the second set and won it 6-2 in 36 minutes.

The third-set score looked simple, but the fight was intense. Alcaraz won the set 6-3 in 51 minutes. Djokovic saved four break points in the final game, showing strong resistance.

Alcaraz Lifts Norman Brookes Cup

The final set was the longest and lasted 1 hour and 2 minutes. Both players held serve until the 12th game. Alcaraz then broke Djokovic and won the set 7-5. He lifted the Norman Brookes Cup for the first time.

Despite reaching his first final at Rod Laver Arena, record 10-time champion Djokovic failed to win the title. He also missed the chance to break Ken Rosewall’s record and become the oldest Grand Slam winner.
