Chelsea Beat PSG 3-0 to Win Club World Cup as Trump Steals Spotlight
Juy 15, 2025 - Cole Palmer scored two goals and Joao Pedro scored one goal to help Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 3-0. With this win, Chelsea became the FIFA Club World Cup champions.
The final match was full of action. It had fun, drama, and even fights. Players and staff of PSG and Chelsea argued during the game. Something surprising also happened. US President Donald Trump came to watch the match being played at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. After the match, he gave away the trophy to Chelsea. But then, he did not leave the stage. FIFA President Gianni Infantino had to take him to the back of the stage. This moment surprised both the fans and the Chelsea players.
Full of Action
Palmer scored two similar goals with his left foot from inside the penalty box in the 22nd and 30th minutes. Later, he also helped in the third goal. He passed the ball to Pedro, who scored in the 43rd minute by beating PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. This was Pedro’s third goal for Chelsea after joining the club on July 2.
Palmer, who is 23 years old, joined Chelsea from Manchester City two years ago. He has scored 18 goals this season.
PSG Fails to Make Comeback
PSG tried hard to fight back, but they could not break Chelsea's strong defense. Things got worse for them when they had to play the last few minutes with only 10 players. Joao Neves was shown a red card in the 84th minute for pulling at Marc Cucurella and making him fall.
Before this match, PSG had already won three trophies this season — Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and their first-ever Champions League title. They were aiming for their fourth.
Fight Breaks Out
The match also saw a big fight. PSG coach Luis Enrique and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma were seen pushing Chelsea forward Pedro. Enrique came onto the field and looked like he grabbed Pedro by the neck. Donnarumma also pushed Pedro, and he fell down.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca then asked Donnarumma, his fellow Italian, to leave the field.
Trump on Podium
After the match, more drama happened. President Trump awarded the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James but did not leave the podium. James was seen saying something to Trump, but Trump kept smiling and stood there. Chelsea players went on with their celebration.
Normally, the person who gives the trophy steps back so the team can celebrate freely. But Trump stayed on the stage. Later, FIFA President Infantino joined the celebration and then gently took Trump away.
Palmer Reacts to Podium Moment
Palmer, who played a big role in Chelsea’s win, spoke about the moment later. He said he was surprised to see Trump still standing on the podium.
Palmer said, “I knew he was there, but I didn’t think he would stay on the stage while we lifted the trophy. So, I was a little confused about how to celebrate.”
