July 18, 2025 - Indian team's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate has shared an important update on the fitness of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Ryan said that Pant might be able to bat in the fourth Test in Manchester, but it will be difficult for him to do wicketkeeping.

Pant is still recovering from a finger injury. He got injured while trying to collect a ball from Bumrah on the first day of the third Test at Lord's. Dhruv Jurel took the wicketkeeping duties in that match. However, Pant did bat and scored 74 and 9 runs in both innings.

India needs to win the fourth Test to level the series, which makes this match very important. Doeschate said that Pant batted in pain during the third Test but the team is being careful with his finger injury.

"He will bat again in Manchester before the Test. I don’t think anyone wants to leave Pant out of the team, no matter what. He played with a lot of pain earlier, but now his finger is getting better," Ryan said.

Ryan also said that the last step in Pant’s recovery is wicketkeeping. The team does not want to repeat what happened in the Lord’s Test, where they had to change the wicketkeeper during the match.

"Wicketkeeping is the last part of his recovery. We have to make sure Pant is ready to keep. We don’t want to replace the wicketkeeper in the middle of a match again. He rested today and is trying hard to recover. Hopefully, he will be fully fit by the Manchester Test. If he is fit, he will definitely play," Ryan added.

India is trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series. The fourth Test will be played in Manchester from July 23. The team hopes Pant will recover in time and help India level the series.
