Copa del Rey: Barcelona Reach Quarter-Finals After 11 Straight Wins
Spain, 16th January, 2026: Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup a few days ago after beating Real Madrid. Continuing that winning run, Barça have now reached the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. The defending champions defeated Racing Santander 2–0, with goals from Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal. With this win, Hansi Flick’s side have now recorded 11 consecutive victories across all competitions.
Barcelona have achieved a run of 11 straight wins on four previous occasions. They did so in the 2014–15 season under Luis Enrique, the 2008–09 season under Pep Guardiola, the 1955–56 season under Franz Platko, and between 1925 and 1927 under coaches Ralph Kirby, Richard Dombey, and Romà Forns.
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have now joined that list once again. The Catalan club has a chance to extend this winning streak further. However, Barça are still some distance away from the club’s all-time record for consecutive wins. They need seven more victories to match it. Barcelona last achieved their longest winning run of 18 straight matches in all competitions during the 2005–06 season under coach Frank Rijkaard.
Barca Break Through After Strong Resistance
Despite controlling the game from the start, Barcelona struggled to find the opening goal. For a while, there were fears that Barça could suffer the same fate as Real Madrid earlier in the competition. The breakthrough finally came in the 66th minute when Ferran Torres scored to ease the pressure on the home fans. The goal was set up by Fermín López.

Late Goals Seal Quarter-Final Spot
After falling behind, Racing Santander pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Maneix Lozano created several chances and even found the net twice, but both goals were ruled out for offside. Barcelona then sealed the win in added time when Lamine Yamal scored the second goal. Raphinha provided the assist as Barça, the record 32-time champions, booked their place in the quarter-finals.
Ferran Torres Reflects on the Win
Speaking to Movistar after the match, Torres admitted the challenge was tougher than expected. “We didn’t think they would push us so hard. I knew we had to work hard and stay patient. In the end, it paid off,” he said.
Talking about his own form, Torres added, “I will score many more goals. My aim is to help the team and the coach. I knew this season would be different for me, and I am ready to play as a striker for Barcelona.”
