Morne Morkel Gives Injury Update on Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer
Morne Morkel Shares Positive Injury Update on Shubman Gill & Shreyas Iyer Ahead of Ranchi ODI
Udaipur, Nov 29, 2025: Indian cricket team bowling coach Morne Morkel shared good news about the return of ODI captain Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. He said, “I spoke to Shubman two days ago. He is recovering well. Shreyas has also started his rehab, which is great.”
Gill got injured in the first Test in Kolkata. He suffered a neck injury and missed the second Test. Iyer suffered a rib injury in the third ODI in Australia, and that is why he is out of the team. In Gill’s place, KL Rahul is leading India in the ODI series against South Africa, which starts on Sunday.
Improvement in Gill and Iyer
Both teams have reached Ranchi for the first ODI of the series. Team India has also started practice. Morkel said in a press conference on Friday, “I think the medical team can give the most accurate update. I spoke to Shubman two days ago to know his condition. It was good to hear from him. Iyer has also started his rehab, which is a good thing. We are waiting for him to return to the team. The good thing is that he is healthy and has started preparing for his comeback.”
A big opportunity for Arshdeep and Rana
With senior players rested for the ODI series, this is a big chance for young fast bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Prasidh Krishna. Morkel said this is a great opportunity for Arshdeep, Harshit, and Prasidh. They will face a strong batting lineup. It will be interesting to see how they handle pressure, bowl in the death overs, and take wickets. In white-ball cricket, taking wickets is very important.
