Asia Cup 2025: India to Announce Squad Soon; Yashasvi, Gill and Sai Hopefuls

Udaipur, Aug 6, 2025: Asia Cup 2025 will start from September 9, but the Indian team has not been announced yet. It is expected that the team will be announced by the third week of this month. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan are the main contenders for the Indian team selection. Test captain Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal did not play in India’s last few T20 matches, but after playing the five-match Test series against England, they have got a month’s rest. In such a situation, there is a strong chance that they will play in the Asia Cup.

Sources related to BCCI told news agency PTI that the selectors are watching all the options carefully. They are also keeping options open for the home Test series against West Indies.

This situation has developed because if India reaches the final of the continental T20 tournament on September 28, then the Test series against West Indies will start in less than a week. The first Test match will be played in Ahmedabad from October 2, just a few days after the T20 final.

Strong IPL Performance

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 559 runs in the last IPL with a strike rate of 160. Shubman Gill scored 650 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of more than 155. Sai Sudarshan, playing for Gujarat Titans, won the Orange Cap by scoring 759 runs at a strike rate of 156.

A BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity,

“There is a break of five weeks and no big tournament during this time, so these three players can be directly included in the T20 team. The Asia Cup will have a maximum of 6 T20 matches in 21 days, which is not a big workload. However, for a 17-member team, the selectors will consider all the options.”

Keeping in mind the UAE pitches and the T20 World Cup after six months, Jaiswal, Gill, and Sudarshan are important for the top order.

Sudarshan, who made his ODI debut in 2023, is in great T20 form. The biggest concern is the availability of fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Both bowlers have been managed carefully due to workload in all formats and will go through a fitness test before selection.
