Udaipur, May 2, 2025: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been nothing short of a nightmare for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The team struggled to find rhythm throughout the season, and their losing streak continued. CSK's hopes of reaching the playoffs ended after a four-wicket loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday. Along with the defeat, the team also made several embarrassing records.
Even Dhoni’s Captaincy Couldn't Save the Season
Chennai Super Kings became the first team to be eliminated from IPL 2025. Out of 10 matches, CSK has lost 8 and has only 4 points. Even after Mahendra Singh Dhoni returned as captain, the team’s performance did not improve. This season, they set an unwanted record by losing the most home matches. CSK lost 5 out of 6 games at Chepauk — something that had never happened before. In 2008 and 2012, they had lost four home matches each.
Worst Home Record and Losing Streak at Chepauk
Chennai also created another poor record by losing 5 consecutive matches at Chepauk. The defeat against Punjab was their seventh loss in the last eight matches against that team. With this, CSK is now officially out of the playoff race. This is the first time in history that the Chennai Super Kings have failed to reach the playoffs in two seasons in a row.
Chahal’s Hat-trick Creates More Trouble for CSK
In Wednesday’s match, Punjab spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took a hat-trick — the first ever by a bowler against CSK in IPL history. His brilliant bowling helped bowl out CSK for 190 runs. This is also the first time Chennai has been all out in two consecutive matches. In the match before this, Sunrisers Hyderabad had dismissed them for just 154 runs.
