Samson, Kartik Shine as CSK Beat DC by 8 Wickets in IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings defeat Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets in IPL 2026. Sanju Samson stars with 87* as CSK boost playoff chances.
May 06, 2026: Chennai Super Kings delivered a dominant all-round performance in Match 48 of the Indian Premier League 2026, defeating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The victory marked CSK’s second successive win and fifth overall of the season, taking them to 10 points. With momentum on their side, the Super Kings now require three wins from their remaining four matches to reach the 16-point mark, widely regarded as the playoff qualification benchmark.
Delhi Capitals, after opting to bat first, began cautiously with a 29-run opening stand. Mukesh Choudhary provided the initial breakthrough by dismissing Pathum Nissanka, followed by Akeal Hosein removing KL Rahul. The innings lost further momentum as Noor Ahmad struck twice in quick succession, leaving DC struggling at 37/2 at the end of the powerplay.
CSK continued to tighten their grip through disciplined bowling. Gurjapneet Singh dismissed Axar Patel to reduce DC to 69/5. A crucial 65-run partnership between Tristan Stubbs (38 off 31) and Sameer Rizvi (40* off 24) provided some resistance, but the early setbacks proved costly. Despite a late flourish, DC managed a below-par total of 155/7.

Samson and Kartik Anchor Clinical Chase
In response, CSK suffered an early setback as Lungi Ngidi dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel steadied the innings, guiding the team to 44/1 at the end of the powerplay.
Although Axar Patel struck to remove Urvil Patel, Samson assumed control of the chase with remarkable composure. He brought up a fluent half-century off 32 deliveries and shifted gears decisively during the middle overs. A key moment came when Samson attacked Kuldeep Yadav, collecting 18 runs in an over, followed by another aggressive assault on T Natarajan that yielded 20 runs, effectively sealing the contest.
At the other end, Kartik Sharma played a valuable supporting role, rotating strike efficiently before accelerating in the closing stages. The duo stitched together an unbeaten 114-run partnership for the third wicket. Samson remained unbeaten on 87 off 52 balls, while Kartik contributed a composed 41* off 31 deliveries. CSK eventually chased down the target in just 17.3 overs, securing a comprehensive eight-wicket victory with 15 balls to spare and significantly boosting their playoff prospects.
